The DJI O4 Ground Station is a fixed transmission base station for OcuSync 4 enterprise operations. It sits between the aircraft and the control room and holds the video link together across distance, terrain and crowded RF conditions that would otherwise break it.

DJI O4 Ground Station

The DJI O4 Ground Station is a fixed transmission base station for OcuSync 4 enterprise operations. It sits between the aircraft and the control room and holds the video link together across distance, terrain and crowded RF conditions that would otherwise break it.

Most sites that struggle with drone connectivity have the same underlying problem. The asset is spread out, the airspace is electrically noisy, or the crew is working well past the reach of a single dock. The O4 Ground Station is the piece of hardware that closes that gap, and it does it in one of two ways depending on how the site is set up.

In Gateway Mode it connects straight into DJI FlightHub 2 over Ethernet or a cellular dongle, so it no longer has to be positioned close to a DJI Dock 3. In Relay Mode it needs no internet connection at all: you put it at a high point and it carries the link into valleys, behind buildings and across ground the signal could not otherwise reach.

It is built to be installed once and left alone. IP67 sealing, fanless passive cooling, lightning protection to EN/IEC 61643-21 Category C, a backup battery that carries it through a power cut, and a self-recovery routine that brings it back online without anyone driving out to the site.

What the DJI O4 Ground Station does

High-output RF unit

The RF unit pushes signal further into dense urban obstruction, and an improved signal-to-noise ratio pulls usable video back out of environments where a weaker receiver would simply drop the link.

Automatic multi-band switching

Sub-2G support and automatic multi-band switching are available with the Matrice 400 and are restricted in some countries, so check what applies locally.

Gateway Mode and Relay Mode explained

The two modes solve different problems. Picking the wrong one is the most common reason a deployment underperforms, so it is worth being clear about the difference before you order.

Relay Mode depends on 5 GHz availability and is not offered in every country. Confirm the position for your operating region before you build it into a deployment plan.

Ranges are measured outdoors, unobstructed and free of interference, and describe one-way non-return flights. Figures change with the regulatory standard in force, and permitted frequencies and output power vary by country.

Power, network and installation requirements

Power

The station is PoE powered, either from the DJI Dock 3 PoE output port or from a third-party supply. The PoE class you choose sets the temperature range you can actually operate across.

Non-standard PoE and Type 1 supplies will not run the station, and the indicator shows solid red if an unsupported supply is connected. For UAE installations Type 4 is the sensible default: it covers the full temperature range and leaves headroom.

Cabling and the IP67 rating

The IP67 rating only holds if the installation is done properly. Four things matter:

1.     Use the supplied cable connector, including the corrugated tubing and plug, where the Ethernet cable enters the unit.

2.     Use Cat 6 or higher outdoor rated waterproof twisted pair with an outer diameter between 5.5 mm and 6.5 mm, and form a drip loop before the cable reaches the port.

3.     Fit all rubber port covers, and the DJI Cellular Dongle 2 heat sink if one is installed.

4.     Fully tighten the screws on any unused WAN or LAN port.

The rating is measured in controlled conditions and degrades with wear, so treat it as a design target rather than a permanent guarantee.

Antenna fitting

      Use a 13 mm open-ended wrench to fit or remove the external directional antennas

      Recommended tightening torque is 15 kgf-cm, which is 1.4 N-m

      Third-party antennas can be fitted provided they use a compatible standard SMA connector

Activation and deployment

5.     Connect the station to an Android phone with the supplied USB-C cable and activate it in the DJI Enterprise app.

6.     Choose the operating mode: three presses of the power button, the DJI Enterprise app, or DJI Assistant 2 on a PC.

7.     Select the site. In Gateway Mode use the Signal Map in FlightHub 2 after a flight to find weak coverage zones. In Relay Mode survey the intended position with a Matrice 4D Series aircraft and remote controller following the DJI Pilot 2 prompts.

8.     Mount the station at height, fit the antennas, and complete the cable and PoE work to the IP67 requirements above.

9.     Run the network test inside the DJI Enterprise app, then validate operation from FlightHub 2 or your chosen cloud platform.

Expect roughly ten extra seconds of pre-flight preparation once the station is selected as the relay, because the system pre-loads linking data before take-off.

Compatible aircraft and docks

Compatibility differs between the two modes, and this is where most specification errors happen. Gateway Mode is narrower than people assume.

Re-linking after a hardware change

      Gateway Mode: replacing the DJI Dock 3 and its paired aircraft does not require re-linking

One limitation worth knowing up front: an O4 Ground Station and a D-RTK 3 Relay Station cannot currently be used together within a single task on the same DJI Dock 3. DJI has said this is planned for a future firmware release. The O4 Ground Station also does not replace the base station or rover station functions of the D-RTK 3.

1. What is the DJI O4 Ground Station?

It is a fixed transmission base station for DJI OcuSync 4 enterprise operations. It extends video transmission and control coverage beyond what an aircraft, remote controller or dock can manage on its own, and it can also feed RTK reference data and IP camera streams into the same platform.

2. What is the maximum transmission range?

Up to 40 km between a Matrice 400 and the station, and up to 30 km with other supported aircraft, both under IC compliance and measured outdoors with no obstruction or interference. Figures differ under other regulatory standards, so confirm which applies to your operation.

3. What is the difference between Gateway Mode and Relay Mode?

Gateway Mode connects the station directly to DJI FlightHub 2 over Ethernet or a cellular dongle, which removes the need to place it near a DJI Dock 3. Relay Mode needs no internet: you position the station at height and it relays the aircraft link into obstructed or offline ground.

4. How do I switch between the two modes?

Three ways: press the power button three times, connect an Android phone over USB-C and switch in the DJI Enterprise app, or use DJI Assistant 2 (Enterprise Series) from a PC. The mode indicator shows purple for Gateway and blue for Relay.

5. Which aircraft and docks work in Gateway Mode?

Gateway Mode supports the DJI Dock 3.

6. Which aircraft and docks work in Relay Mode?

DJI Dock 3, Matrice 400, Matrice 4E, Matrice 4T, and Matrice 4D or 4TD with the DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise. Relay Mode is unavailable in countries without 5 GHz support, so check the local position before planning around it.

7. Does it need DJI FlightHub 2?

FlightHub 2 is required for Gateway Mode and for IP camera streaming. Relay Mode works with no cloud connection at all, which is the whole point of it.

8. How many aircraft can connect at the same time?

One at a time in either mode. Multiple docks or remote controllers can share a single station in sequence, which is usually enough for a rotating patrol pattern.

9. How far from the DJI Dock 3 can it be placed?

In Gateway Mode there is no distance restriction, so you can put it wherever coverage is weakest. In Relay Mode keep it within about 1 km of the dock, elevated and with a clear path between the two.

10. What power supply does it need?

PoE, either from the DJI Dock 3 PoE output or a third-party supply. Type 4 (802.3bt) covers -40 C to 55 C, Type 3 covers -30 C to 55 C, and Type 2 (802.3at) covers -20 C to 55 C and supports Gateway Mode only. Non-standard PoE and Type 1 supplies will not run it.

11. Does it keep running during a power cut?

Yes. A built-in backup battery keeps it operating for roughly 45 minutes in Gateway Mode and 30 minutes in Relay Mode, and it restarts on its own when PoE power returns.

12. What network bandwidth does it need?

At least 100 Mbps. If you are also running IP cameras, put the station on a dedicated network to keep latency down.

13. How far can it sit from the network switch?

Up to 100 m of cable. Terminate both ends in T568B order and use Cat 6 or higher outdoor rated cable.

14. Does it provide RTK positioning to the aircraft?

Yes. In both modes, once position calibration is complete, the station supplies RTK reference data to the connected aircraft.

15. Which satellite systems does it track?

GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS and L-Band, across 19 frequencies in total.

16. Can it be left outdoors permanently?

Yes, that is what it is designed for. IP67 sealing, fanless cooling, lightning protection to EN/IEC 61643-21 Category C, and automatic recovery after a power or software fault.

17. What does the IP67 rating actually depend on?

Correct installation. Use the supplied cable connector and corrugated tubing, Cat 6 or higher outdoor rated waterproof cable with a 5.5 mm to 6.5 mm outer diameter, form a drip loop before the port, fit every rubber cover, and fully tighten the screws on unused ports.

18. Can I fit a third-party antenna?

Yes, provided it uses a compatible standard SMA connector. The external directional antennas use reverse polarity SMA and cover sub-2G, 2.4 GHz, 5.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz.

19. What tools are needed to fit the external antennas?

A 13 mm open-ended wrench, tightened to around 15 kgf-cm, which is 1.4 N-m.

20. Can it stream fixed IP cameras?

Yes, up to four H.264 streams into FlightHub 2 in Gateway Mode. Where the camera supports it you also get PTZ control from FlightHub 2 and alerts such as motion or occlusion pushed through to the platform.

21. Which IP cameras are compatible?

ONVIF cameras with H.264 encoding and DHCP enabled, or GB/T 28181 cameras with H.264 encoding on the same subnet as the WAN port with a static IP. DJI publishes a list of tested models on the product downloads page.

22. Does the station power the cameras?

No. It does not supply power to downstream devices, so cameras need their own PoE switch or DC adapter.

23. Does IP camera streaming work in Relay Mode?

No. Relay Mode has no internet connectivity, so the station has to be in Gateway Mode for cameras.

24. How is it activated and set up?

Connect it to an Android phone with the supplied USB-C cable and activate it in the DJI Enterprise app. Deployment and commissioning happen in the same app, after which you validate operation from FlightHub 2 or your own cloud platform.

25. How do I choose the deployment position?

In Gateway Mode, fly the area and use the Signal Map in FlightHub 2 to see where coverage is weak. In Relay Mode, survey the intended position with a Matrice 4D Series aircraft and remote controller following the DJI Pilot 2 prompts.

26. How does it differ from the D-RTK 3 Relay Fixed Deployment Version?

The D-RTK 3 Relay version only does relay, mainly for fixed Dock 3 deployment. The O4 Ground Station does both modes, adds the sub-2G band, adds low-power standby, and supports IP cameras and ESDK 2.0 devices.

27. Does it replace a D-RTK 3 base or rover station?

No. It does not support the base station or rover station modes of the D-RTK 3.

28. Can it run alongside a D-RTK 3 Relay Station on the same dock?

Not within a single task at present. DJI has indicated this is planned for a future firmware update.

29. Why does take-off take slightly longer once it is connected?

Selecting the station as the communication relay makes the system pre-load linking data before flight, which adds roughly ten seconds to pre-flight preparation.

30. Do we need approval to fly drones in the UAE?

Yes. Drone operations are regulated federally by the GCAA, and operations in Dubai need additional permissions through the DCAA. We can point you to the right process for your operation and fleet.
