The DJI Obstacle Sensing Module is a powerful add-on designed to enhance the autonomous safety and environmental awareness of drones in the Matrice 4 Series. Whether used for industrial inspection, infrastructure monitoring, emergency response, or fully autonomous missions via DJI Dock 3, this module delivers unmatched situational intelligence with its advanced dual-sensor fusion technology.
Equipped with a rotating LiDAR sensor and millimeter-wave radar, the module provides 360-degree horizontal and wide vertical obstacle detection, allowing drones to operate safely in complex environments with minimal human intervention. Weighing only 235 grams and built with an IP55-rated enclosure, it is designed to withstand harsh conditions while ensuring reliable performance across various industries.
The obstacle sensing module integrates two sensing systems—rotating LiDAR and millimeter-wave radar. The LiDAR component provides full 360-degree horizontal detection and 58-degree vertical sensing, while the radar system adds a 90-degree field of view in both horizontal and vertical directions. This redundancy ensures that obstacles are detected from all directions with high precision.
The module can detect obstacles up to 100 meters away, enabling the drone to react in time even when flying at higher speeds. This extended range is especially beneficial in environments where wires, towers, vegetation, or buildings are present, minimizing the risk of collision.
Designed to support forward flight speeds of up to 15 meters per second, the obstacle sensing module ensures that drones can fly fast while still detecting and avoiding obstacles in real-time. This makes it ideal for urgent deployment situations, including emergency response or perimeter surveillance.
Despite its advanced capabilities, the obstacle sensing module maintains a compact and lightweight profile. Measuring 103.3 × 64 × 85.8 mm and weighing just 235 grams, it adds minimal weight to the drone. Its IP55-rated body ensures protection against dust and water, making it well-suited for all-weather operation in industrial and remote environments.
It can operate efficiently within a temperature range of -20°C to 50°C, ensuring reliability during summer heatwaves, cold nights, and high-altitude missions.
Enhanced Safety for Docked and Autonomous Flights: Provides essential obstacle awareness during takeoff, landing, and en-route autonomous missions.
Reduced Operator Workload: Ideal for fully automated missions where human pilots are not involved in real-time navigation.
Precision in Complex Environments: Operates effectively in visually complex or GPS-challenged areas such as forests, cities, and industrial zones.
Improved BVLOS Compliance: Supports safe operations beyond visual line of sight with accurate, redundant obstacle detection.
